چکیده

Acute Ischemic Syndromes To the Editor: Congratulations to Duffy et al1 on their well-written article, “Iron Chelation Improves Endothelial Function in Patients With Coronary Disease.” We completely agree that increased body iron stores may be a risk factor for atherosclerosis and may accelerate endothelial dysfunction in acute ischemic syndromes. Hence, deferoxamine, an iron chelator, should prove useful both for preventing ischemia and improving endothelial function. Our investigations into the efficacy of deferoxamine in acute ischemic syndromes and as a possible treatment for atherosclerosis, performed over the past 5 years, yielded the following corroborative findings:

بررسی سطح پلاسمایی مالون دی آلدئید ، تروپونین قلبیI و پروتئین واکنشگر C در مبتلایان به بیماریهای عروق کرونر حاد

Introduction & Objective: Ischemic injury of endothelium is associated with prostaglandin synthesis and platelet adhesion and aggregation, which may be associated with the release of aldehydes such as malondialdehyde (MDA). C-reactive protein and cardiac troponin I have been proposed as diagnostic markers of acute coronary syndromes. In this study, we compared the usefulness of plasma MDA as a ...

Endothelial dysfunction in ischemic acute renal failure: rescue by transplanted endothelial cells.

There is accumulating circumstantial evidence suggesting that endothelial cell dysfunction contributes to the "no-reflow" phenomenon in postischemic kidneys. Here, we demonstrated the vulnerability of in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo endothelial cells exposed to pathophysiologically relevant insults, such as oxidative and nitrosative stress or ischemia. All of these stimuli compromised the integr...

Heart-kidney interactions in ischemic syndromes.

To the Editor: In a recent GUSTO-IV substudy of 6809 patients with non– ST-segment–elevation acute coronary syndromes, raised serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and creatinine clearance below the 25th percentile (51 mL/min) independently predicted 1-year mortality.1 The combination of creatinine clearance with BNP was the strongest predictor of death, compared with each marker...

The Protective Effect of Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Nanoparticles in Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Damage

Background& objectives: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) damage occurs during renal transplantation in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients which activate immune responses. Inflammatory responses by increased levels of cytokines can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) that contributes to the loss of renal grafts and graft dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to review the therapeutic effe...

O10: Thrombo-Inflammation in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury.  The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...
